It is with heavy hearts that the Chapman and Straka families announce the passing of Leamon Chapman, who departed this life on October 7, 2025, just months after celebrating his 87th birthday. Born on April 24, 1938, in Belfry, Kentucky, Leamon was a proud veteran, a devoted family man, a church deacon, and a loyal friend whose stories and humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Leamon's early life in Belfry shaped a hardworking and steadfast man. He was the beloved son of the late Earl and Pearl Chapman, and was also loved by his stepmother, Bertha Chapman. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jeffrey Chapman, two dear sisters, Loretta Chapman and Gaythel Lenhardt, and five brothers: Lee Orvall Chapman, Gary Dean Chapman, Vernon Chapman, Reaford Chapman, and Earl Chapman Jr.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Leamon served his country for four years. He cherished the memories of his service, often recounting his experiences driving a 2½-ton truck-his beloved "Deuce and a half"-on the Autobahn in Europe. These stories reflected his adventurous spirit and offered a glimpse into a life rich with unique experiences.
Following his military service, Leamon dedicated his career to the telecommunications industry, retiring from Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T and now Nokia Corporation). He approached his work with the same dedication, humility, and commitment he demonstrated in every aspect of his life.
Leamon was a generous man who, despite having little, always found ways to give to those in need. Every member of his family can recall a time when his generosity touched their lives.
He was a faithful member of Walthall Baptist Church in Chesterfield County, where he served as a Deacon. Many in the congregation remember him for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for the Lord.
Above all, Leamon's greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter and is survived by his former wife, Karen Elaine Barb and his children: Renee (John) Straka, Scott (Lisa) Chapman, and Butch (Casey) Chapman. He was a cherished grandfather to Austin, Alec, Jamison, Kendel, Dylan, Thomas, Noah, Carter, and Samuel, and a loving great-grandfather to Sheridan, Rayah, Aria, Ariana, Silas, and Cora.
Leamon will be profoundly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His quiet strength, captivating stories, and unwavering love for his family will be treasured forever.
